Alexa Chung was born to an English mother and a Chinese father in Privett, Hampshire, England. She completed her secondary education in the neighbourhood Perins School and her sixth form at Winchester’s Peter Symonds College. She was accepted to study English at King’s College London but decided to pursue modelling for a period instead after being discovered by a modelling agency before she arrived. At the age of 16, Chung was signed for the comedy tent at the Reading Festival and hired by the London-based Storm Model Management. She worked for brands like Fanta, Sony Ericsson, Sunsilk, Urban Outfitters, and Tampax in addition to modeling for teen issues like Elle Girl and CosmoGIRL!
She made appearances in music videos for great musicians like The Streets, Westlife, Delta Goodrem, Reuben, and Holly Valance. She also played Jake in the 2005 Fashion TV reality series Shoot Me, which was a written version of a real-life situational comedy. After four years, Chung decided to end her modelling career with the idea of enrolling in fashion journalism or art foundation study. Through modelling, she had acquired a “distorted body image” and “poor self-esteem.” Chung also spoke about her battle with body dysmorphia and anxiety in several interviews.
Chung participated in the Vivienne Westwood 2009 runway walk in September 2008 during London Fashion Week. She was named the face of British high street behemoth New Look at the beginning of 2009. In the year 2010, Chung became the face of Pepe Jeans London. Chung was named the face of the 100th anniversary campaign for Italian footwear company Superga in January 2011. This is not even 10% of her accomplishments. Miss Chung has been winning hearts and leaving a mark since she 16. Between October 2007 and June 2008, Chung penned a monthly editorial for the British women’s publication Company. She has always been a firm and active supporter of women’s rights and it shows in her writing endeavors. Chung also authored and penned a weekly newspaper column for The Independent in England under the pen names “Girl About Town” and “New York Doll.” She joined British Vogue as a contributing editor in June 2009.
Chung consistently makes it to the list of the best-dressed people and frequently appears on the covers of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. Chung has been dubbed “the Kate Moss of the new age” by The New York Times. Chung earned the British Style Award at the 2011 British Fashion Awards, which was judged by the general people. Chung is one of the most well-known influences of our generation, and millions of her followers around the world adore her sense of style.
