Gigi Hadid was raised in Los Angeles by Yolanda Hadid (née Van den Herik), a former model, and Mohamed Hadid, a real estate tycoon. Her mother was born in the Netherlands, while her father is an American of Palestinian origin. Through her father, she claims to be a descendant of the Sheik of Galilee and Daher Al Omer, Prince of Nazareth. The two younger siblings of Hadid are models Anwar, a brother, and Bella, a sister. Her two more senior paternal half-sisters are Alana and Marielle. After her parents got separated, her mother married music producer David Foster; as a result, she acquired five stepsisters. Hadid graduated from Malibu High School in 2013, where she also served as team captain for the varsity volleyball team in addition to being a talented rider of horses. She relocated to New York City after high school to concentrate on her schooling and her modelling career. Beginning in the fall of 2013, Hadid studied criminal psychology at The New School, although she took a break from her coursework to concentrate on her modelling career.
Paul Marciano of Guess apparel first noticed Hadid when she was barely two years old, sparking the start of her modelling career. She began modelling for Baby Guess before taking a hiatus to focus on her education. In 2011, Hadid eventually went back to modelling. She resumed working with Marciano in 2012 and was selected to take part in a Guess advertisement. As an adult, Hadid has photographed three Guess commercials. In February 2014, Hadid made her New York Fashion Week debut by walking for Desigual’s show after relocating to the city and signed with IMG Models in 2013. That month, she made her high-fashion debut by appearing on the cover of the publication CR Fashion Book. Patrick Schwarzenegger, an actor and model, and she both appeared in Tom Ford’s Eyewear autumn/winter campaign on July 15, 2014. On September 5, 2014, she co-hosted the Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards ceremony in New York City. Aside from Tom Ford F/W 2014, Tom Ford Velvet Orchard Fragrance, and Tom Ford Beauty 2014 campaigns, Hadid has also appeared in them. In 2014, she appeared on the covers of Galore and Carine Rotfeld’s CR Fashion Book.
Hadid and her sister Bella appeared together in the Fendi and Moschino campaigns for the Spring/Summer season, which marked their campaign debuts. Hadid also served as the face of the S/S 2017 advertising campaigns for DSQUARED2, Stuart Weitzman, and Max Mara accessories. In February 2017 for the Spring season, the second Tommy Hilfiger and Gigi Hadid ready-to-wear collection was unveiled. Model Adwoah Aboah and musician Zayn Malik were featured in the Versus (Versace) Spring Summer 2017 campaign, which was photographed by Hadid. She also took the photos for Gigi’s Journal, a special summer edition of V Magazine that contained Polaroids of friends, celebrities, and coworkers in the fashion business. Four March 2017 Vogue covers—the ones for the American, British, Chinese, and first Arabian editions—all featured Hadid. Additionally, she was featured on the covers of The Daily, Jolie, and the Spring/Summer 2017 issues of CR Fashion Book (Spring 2017).
