Faiza Saleem is a Karachi-based lawyer turned comedian. She was the first female social media entertainer in Pakistan to pursue stand-up comedy, and she also led and taught The Khawatoons, the subcontinent’s first all-female comic group. Faiza has been on television and in films, including the comedy Parchi. Faiza Saleem was born and raised in Karachi but spent much of her time in Germany. She earned her bachelor’s degree in law as the youngest of four siblings from the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology. Later, she was the head of the legal section of a public policy think tank.
Faiza Saleem’s foray into humor began with the creation of the “Pseudo Burger Diaries” and the subsequent creation of memes based on it. Following that, she produced her first video, “Baji… eww,” which was inspired by the conflict between the Defense Department and Nazimabad. Her topics include deep-seated gender stereotypes and body shaming, among other things. She later joined an improv comedy team called “The Platoon,” after which she did regular comedy shows. “The Khawatoons,” her all-female improv troupe, has performed both in Pakistan and worldwide. After working in theatre and social media, she moved on to television, first as Rashk-e-Qamar in Dildaariyaan, then as Faiza Saleem and Sumaira Khanjarwali in Parchi.
With her shows Doodhpatti with Dadi and 2-Minutes with Dadi, she has recently created an interview-based online series. Faiza Saleem is one of the few Pakistani comedians who have influenced the field of humor. She is Pakistan’s first female social media comedian. She is a lawyer by profession, but she also works in the show business as an actor, stand-up comedian, and anchor. She completed her studies in the same city, but she has spent the majority of her life in Germany. She had her bridal shower in December 2018, and she married Abuzer the following month.
Faiza Saleem received her LLB from Karachi’s Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology. She later became the head of the legal department at a public policy think tank. This lawyer-turned-comedian is hilarious. Faiza Saleem, an actor, and comedian, wrote an elaborate and passionate yet extremely rational, open letter to her husband and followers to commemorate “three years of the glorious lunacy called marriage.” Saleem accompanied the photo with an explanation of what love is, and readers should take notes. “We met many years ago and have chosen to be there for each other through more ups and downs than we can count. Love isn’t what we see in movies or imagine it to be when we’re young. It’s not in the sappy Instagram photos or extravagant gestures, though those are lovely as well. “True love can be found in the smallest of details.”
Last year, CNN dubbed Saleem a “social media trailblazer,” pointing out that she is a “rarity” in Pakistan since she is a “female comic.” The 30-year-old formed Pakistan’s first female comedy company, the Khawatoons, and she intends to increase opportunities for women of all shapes and sizes by modeling plus-size clothing for a Karachi design label. “Unconstrained by the conventions of Pakistan’s mainstream media, the former lawyer utilizes her platform to promote a message of body positivity and to challenge stereotypical representations of women,” the publication claimed.
