Indian expats Kimberly Dsouza and Denver Britto, also known as “Kim and Den,” are 29 years old and reside in Dubai. From being two foodies to full-time food bloggers in the city, the Mumbai and Mangalore couple have come a long way. However, their journey involves more than just posting food photos online. Cooking, experimenting, and trying out new foods are all part of it.Even the well-known British chef Gordon Ramsay is involved in some way….
Dsouza and Britto, who graduated from Dubai’s Our Own English High School, have been friends since childhood. Britto continued his education at the same school after Dsouza moved back to Mumbai after tenth grade. While the two of them were on two distinct paths in life, fate took the form of a mobile application and brought them together while they were both in college.
“Den and I knew of each other as kids since we both went to the same school. However, oddly enough we got close when I moved to India for college. He added me on BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) back in 2011 and we instantly developed an attachment for each other. We used to sacrifice our sleep and talk for hours – sometimes until sunrise and somewhere in the middle of those conversations was when we realised that we had grown extremely fond of each other,” said Dsouza.
During their late night conversation, They both realized how passionate they are about food. They both admired the same celebrity chefs and aspired to visit the same Michelin-starred restaurants around the world. In fact, the thought of them reuniting in Dubai and going on dinner dates to their favorite restaurants is what made long-distance bearable. They have been together for nine years and eaten their way around the world. They still sometimes think back to those days when two college students had a strong desire to travel for food, and it feels like a dream to finally live that life.
Celebrity chefs came with TV shows, and British chef Gordon Ramsay is a big part of their relationship. Dsouza and Britto were big fans of the chef’s interviews and television shows as children. However, the Beef Wellington was the one Ramsay’s dish that stood out to them. They finally got the chance to meet the chef in person and try his creation two years ago, after trying to make it for years. This not only brought a dream to fruition but also marked a turning point in their relationship. In addition, Dsouza and Britto both grew up in environments where food was always the centerpiece of every gathering, whether it was a formal event or a simple get-together with friends and family. Because of this, they started WhereMyFoodAt, the UAE’s most popular food blog.
It was in the evening of May 24, 2014, when Britto and Dsouza were sipping a cup of tea from a local eatery in their car that the idea of a food blog struck. Britto and Dsouza decided to make use of the fact that they were referred to as “the couple that eats a lot” by their friends. “We were basically looking for ways to document our food journey since we were known as the couple that ‘eats a lot’ amongst our friends and family, and they always asked us for recommendations on where to eat. Initially, WhereMyFoodAt started out as a hobby for the two of us, however now, almost eight years later, it has become an occupation that’s taken us around the world,” said Britto.
The couple’s restaurant visits, masterclasses, homemade recipes, and even a few food series are all documented on the blog. Dsouza works as a content creator for the blog across all social media channels after leaving a job in banking. While Britto works full-time as an aeronautical engineer, he refers to the blog as his “second job.”
