Get into the zone and review SB19’s rise to fame as a P-pop (Philippine Pop) sensation.
Filipino talent has reached a new level thanks to a new wave of pop music from the Philippines. Pop boy band SB19 has established itself as a pioneer in this period of Original Pinoy Music (OPM).
The Pinoy ensemble continues to promote Filipino identity on national and international stages with their coordinated choreographies and powerful vocals. However, there is more to SB19’s narrative than first appears.
SB19 defied expectations of what P-pop should be, from powerful vocals to flawless performance. P-pop groups may not have received universal acclaim when they first appeared. Still, as long as Josh (Josh Cullen Santos), Sejun (John Paulo Nase), Stell (Stellvester Ajero), Ken (Felip Jhon Suson), and Justin (Justin De Dios) are still active, they’ll continue to show that P-future pop is just as promising as their own.
SB19 made his debut in late 2018 after receiving training from the Korean business ShowBT Philippines. When they initially started, they weren’t exactly a hit. The group’s performances on stage and in the media were met with an excellent (at best) welcome from audiences. “There was a time when we believed SB19 would never become law. In their South China Morning Post interview, Sejun stated, “We had made many sacrifices and practised for so long, yet nothing was happening.
They, therefore, considered “Go Up,” which reached number one on the charts, as their song of atonement. They were unaware that it foresaw their promising future.
The incredible Pinoy boy band achieved another milestone in their musical career in January 2022 when their hit song “Bazinga” spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Trending Songs chart.
SB19 is unwavering in their representation of the Filipino identity through the language and tales in its music, even though a portion of its history and influence is linked to South Korean culture.
The leader of SB19, Pablo, also mentioned how their music, behaviours, and social interactions reflect their Filipino heritage.
The P-Pop stars see A’TIN as their “light,” according to them.
“A diamond sparkles even in the smallest of light — Our fans are our light,” the saying goes. We’ll keep shining even if we only get a little help. They wrote on Twitter, “We cannot explain how grateful we are for the ongoing support from our followers.
The “Go Up” hitmakers became the first Filipino act to be nominated for the Top Social Artist category of the 2021 Billboard Music Awards because of their fans’ overwhelming affection and support.
The Filipino pop stars pushed themselves even further when they played in “The Forte: A Pop Symphony Concert” with an entire orchestra ensemble.
But more than just being a career-defining performance, SB19’s lobbying for the event brought a genuine side to the group beyond their extraordinary talent.
The show’s entire net revenue was donated to Sr. The Baptista Battig Music Foundation, Inc. and the group’s involvement in the campaign demonstrated how passionately they feel about using their music to improve the world.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) recognized the Pinoy pop trio as its newest Sentro Rizal ambassador in December 2021.
SB19 received the award from the organization because of their expanding influence, “their willingness to support the NCCA’s endeavors, as well as their sincere care for advocacies to uplift the Filipino spirit, music, and culture to the global scene,” and “their willingness to support the NCCA’s endeavors.”
And another record was broken when SB19’s “Bazinga” held the top spot on the Billboard Hot Trending Songs chart for more than six weeks, officially unseating BTS’ “Butter” as the song with the longest reign.
SB19 are so busy. Busy that even as of September 2022, Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, and Singapore are among the nations represented on their album WYAT Tour.
