Romeo Tan is a Singaporean actor who competed in Star Search 2010, a reality competition broadcast on Singapore television. Despite his blockbuster performance in the competition, he was offered and accepted a part in the television series C.L.I.F. almost immediately afterward. Romeo and his acting work directed the television movie “The Droner” in 2019. In addition to that, he is pretty enthusiastic about photography.
Romeo Tan revealed that when he was younger, he struggled with his weight, and, like most overweight children, he was the target of bullying. Romeo Tan reported that even when he was still in primary school, he had already grown to a height of more than 172 centimeters. When he started middle school, he weighed a maximum of 92 kilograms at that point in his life. Not only was he made fun of for his size but also for his peculiar name.
“Try to picture yourself being nicknamed Romeo while looking like that. How could I possibly feel joy? “Asked Tan, in what appears to be a reference to a character from the well-known play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. He recalls one of the teachers remarking in front of the entire class, “I’ve never seen such a fat Romeo,” His classmates laughed at the comment. Romeo is a moniker that, according to Tan, was given to him by his father. His two brothers’ names, Robin and Rowell, were also names that began with the letter “R.” Tan stated that his father did not give much thought to what his son’s name would be in Chinese when he named him Romeo. As a result, Tan has a Chinese name consisting of three words: “Luo Mi Ou,” a transcription of Romeo. Romeo is Tan’s middle name.
Tan also remembered being bullied by other kids during his time at the school. He explained that his fellow students would throw rubber bands at him and squeeze correction fluid onto his chair so that it would leave white stains on his clothes whenever he sat down.
One of the most traumatic incidents was when a fellow student shoved him, causing him to lose his balance and tumble off his bicycle. Tan reported that the bully had soaked his shoe in the water from the sewer and then smeared it over his leg. However, Tan did not divulge this information to anyone, not even his own parents.
When Romeo Tan was in pain, he didn’t show it and took everything in stride. He would console himself by treating himself to fast food or ice cream or by playing video games.
Tan finally concluded that he needed to reduce his weight when enrolled in the fourth year of secondary school.
Tan, who was intent on achieving his goal weight, dropped 20 kg and, as a result, caught the attention of a talent scout while he was still a student at a polytechnic. While still in school, Tan began her modelling career and worked as an extra in movies.
After making it to the finals of Star Search in 2010, he had a significant uptick in the success of his acting career.
