James Charles’ life though surrounded by beauty and makeup, but little did he know that controversies would sneak in too. As one says each coin has two sides, so James’ life is. One fine day, when he unwittingly posted one of his photos on twitter the images quickly got a hit. The stunning highlights and beautiful makeup caught the eye of each. Twitter got a shock with a 16-year-old boy, in a school that is so creative. He is now a highly famous makeup artist and vlogger who is working non-stop brushing celebrities’ fine lines. Because of his early fame and sudden popularity, he got a space on the cover Girl as the first male model and gained a lot of praise for his presence on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He has 25.7 million followers on YouTube, 27.3 million on Instagram and 36 million on TikTok (now that’s something really amazing). He is always focused on makeup and his content is always related to that. He loves sharing new products. He loves to share his favorite product and tutorials to use with videos explaining the basic details of makeup.
But over the last 5 years he has been in some or the other kind of trouble not for his makeup but something else. He is just 21-year-old and surrounded by a lot of issues. Because of his offbeat and unacceptable remarks, he has been cut off with many brands. In 2017, he posted a tweet on racism about Africa and the Ebola virus. Realizing his mistake, he issued an apology. In the same year, Charles mentioned the film ‘It’ that was awful. Facing much backlash for this he was adamant on his words. He even made fun of the character Pennywise with a makeup tutorial on his channel which didn’t make his fans happy, and he faced a lot of trolls.
One of his other tweets where Charles commented on Singer Shawn Mendes who showed his juggling skills on Live Instagram, Charles commented, “Can you juggle me like that”? It was a sexual remark and people didn’t like it at all though Mnedes laughed it off later. Charles even accused Ariana Grande of being the rudest celebrity he has ever seen. And he even said that she unfollowed him because of his controversial past. Though the singer’s fans were quick to take a side for her. In 2018, Charles tweeted about blaming Marlena Stella about stealing his documentary ideas for Netflix. Stella quickly defended herself with a tweet. In the following year, Charles uploaded a video saying ‘The truth… My crush does my makeup’ with a fellow youtuber. He said that he is attracted to trans men as well which many trollers called it very transphobic and unwelcoming. He later apologized for his tweet.
