I found a broken and abandoned statue of the 3 famous Gods of Puri, Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subadhra. They were washed up to the shore and lay there like any other driftwood. When a statue is broken or no longer worthy to be prayed to, people do a 'visharjan' , being wooden, it floats around and gets back to the land. These statues, that once proudly sat on a special place, recieved flowers and offerings everyday, was revered with so much love and respect, was bathed, dressed, decked with ornaments etc, now lie wasted and broken. Isnt this a lot like our lives, celebrated during our youth, respected in our prime, revered in adulthood.... but there is a discomfort we cause to others during old age and then our bodies are discarded after death. While memories might stick around, we realize how transient and impermanent life truly is, even for our Gods
