HOW TO GET PAINLESS PERIODS? Menstruation, also known as “period” occurs when the uterus sheds its “Endometrial lining”. It is a cycle of 28 days which happens to every woman during her child bearing age. It is normal to have a little pain, discomfort and some mood swings during periods, but it is not at all normal if you have excessive pain that doesn’t let you live a regular life. What to do to ease the period pain? Menstrual pain is awful for most of the women, out of which only a few come forward and discuss about it to find its cure. Doctors and health experts say that “Dysmenorrhoea” occurs due to poor eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. However, these kinds of pains are easily treatable by adapting a few good habits and Ayurveda. Many of us are rarely following a healthy lifestyle. Sleeping during daytime, staying awake late nights, skipping meals, eating junk foods and practising zero excercise. We have disturbed the natural clock of our body. It has become fashion for most of the youth, but you never know how and when it will affect you both mentally and physically. Here are some tips to get painless periods: • Hot shower Heat therapy helps in relaxing the muscles, increasing the blood flow and easing the pain. Bathing not only help us to stay clean and fresh but also helps in regulating bowel movements where hot bath helps to reduce period pain. • Herbal Tea/Masala Tea Spices are not just to add taste in curries but are also work as stress busters and natural pain killers. To make herbal tea, boil one teaspoon of black pepper powder, small piece of ginger, pinch of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of carom seeds in two cups of water, let it change its colour and when the water reduces to about 25% strain it to a cup and sip it, it’ll soothe pain instantly. • Light Yoga/Excercise Stretching and light exercise helps instantly to get relief during periods. Below postures are few of them specially preferable for those days. Paschimottanasana or forward-bending pose is very effective to relax thighs and leg muscles, it also helps to reduce abdominal pain. Mandukasana directly stresses at abdominal area which helps to relax uterus and ovaries. This yogasana is helpful for reproductive organs. Malasana also known as garland pose is really effective and it reduces pain of groin and anal areas which occurs due to periods. It also ease thighs and hip muscles. Ustrasana or camel pose is also known as an effective yogasana and is beneficial for front body, ankles, thighs and groin. It also can help to reduce menstrual pain. • Ayurveda Iron deficiency or Anaemia is common in all ages of women, but most of us are so busy in life that we hardly bother to get any check-up. We should be aware of our health. If we have iron deficiency or calcium deficiency we can know the symptoms during periods. If you find no blood or less blood during your second day of period you must get a haemoglobin test, too much of pain can also be a sign of both iron and calcium deficiency. There are many ayurvedic medicines and tonics available in market; out of which Ashokarishta and Hempushpa are completely reliable. These tonics not only help in iron deficiency but also can cure Dysmenorrhoea if taken regularly. But ofcourse, no medicine should be taken without doctor’s prescription. So, do visit a gynaecologist or an ayurvedic doctor and explain all your problems during those days and follow the prescription. • Hygiene Cleanliness really matters. We often find that long pads are rarely covered in blood and we think of using it for some more time. But it can be dangerous for our health and can lead us to deadly vaginal infection, which can reach to uterus and damage it. So change your pad every 5-6 hours and keep your vaginal area clean. • Keep yourself hydrated Hydrating yourself is the easiest way to keep those cramps away. Instead of cold water, drink normal RO water. if you keep yourself hydrated then gas and irritable bowel movements can also be cured. • Healthy diet This is one of the must have habits which many of us usually ignore. Eliminate trans-fatty acids and add more green vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. Eat foods that are high in vitamins, calcium and iron. Have fruits and vegetables which are rich in antioxidants like tomatoes, cherries and bell peppers. Vegetables like spinach, drumsticks, green peas, sprouts, okra, cauliflower etc are rich in iron, zinc and antioxidants. Include them in your daily diet and stay healthy. • Have good sleep Many women struggle to sleep during those days due to cramps and discomfort, but if you put a pillow under or between your legs and a hot bag at lower belly, it can ease your contracting muscles and help you to sleep. Every woman has to go through the menstrual cycle, we women got it as a gift from the God, why to suffer in painful periods? When we can easily adapt good habits and transform it to painless periods.
