You are happy, you might wanna watch it, you are sad, you want to watch it, you are feeling lonely, you need them, you are having your alone me time, you need them to relax you, you are dealing with stress, you have them. Also, you can never have a favourite character ever on this show. Everyone is favourite on different days. I mean no one could be so heartlessly pure, good looking, and funny than Joey. No one can as charming, loving, caring, and sarcastic as Chandler. You can have no one who take cares like Monica and is also a freak. You want to be her on some days. You want to be Rachel on all days when it comes to fashion, bossing up, being a kid, being a brat, and what not. Ross is as realistic as you. Keep yourself in place of him in every situation and you would feel this. Phoebe is not a weirdo but a sweetheart forever.
